Liberty Tire Recycling played a key role in a recent pilot project by SSAB Alabama and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) that explored using recycled crumb rubber in steel production. The trial successfully replaced 5–30% of traditional carbon material with Liberty’s crumb rubber, with no negative impact on steel quality, furnace performance, or emissions — and even improved slag characteristics. Funded by ADEM, the project highlights how Liberty’s innovative recycling solutions can help reduce industrial carbon footprints while diverting thousands of scrap tires from landfills and illegal dumping.
